Trying Something Different, but the same.
After parting ways in 2020 with my little yellow EG6, I wanted to buckle down, pay off a few looming bills I had & get debt free (as far as possible) this meant projects slowed down & I didnt replace a car on the channel, which is very, very counter productive in the youtube space. It’s one of them things, if you sell something people love you for, dont replace it then try different content, you loose viewers, fairly standard procedure & was expected.
I felt like, over the years of falling in love with drifting completely fell out of love with track days, but I think I’d just been approaching them with the wrong attitude.
First up there is a huge difference between the crowds at drift & Track days. Track days also have a lot of rules & lots of very spoilt children in Ginetta’s. Can be very stressful for the usual casual track day enjoyer.
My little brother & my brother in law decided that track days were a hobby they wanted to pursue & both picked up a couple of hot french hatches, in the form of Renault Clios.
Not one to ever turn down the opportunity to look into, and purchase a car I definitely don’t need, I had to start the rationalisation of another car, which will likely end up being another project & me spiralling endlessly down a money dissolving rabbit hole I absolutely could avoid. So after collecting my brothers Red Clio 197 and being shocked at the spec these things come with straight from factory, I started scouring the internet, I knew they came in yellow & I knew you could get them with Recaro CS’s. That was as far as my brain really knew about these cars.
Well, a few minutes of searching at rapid place, I hit the absolute jackpot. Some dude was in a position where he needed rid for family reasons, of a Yellow F1 Edition Clio RS 197, with beautiful condition Recaro CS, a few very small choice mods & him being an enthusast of the chassis I knew it was in good hands. But that little angry french lemon needed to be in my hands, not his ^_^
A few emails back and forth and that man had his deposit, and this man had secured his new little car, that 15 minutes before hand he didnt even know he needed, or what was to come….
Heading straight up to Birmingham way the next evening, I got a lift from the one and only Tom Peck and secured the goods.
The drive home was a blast, my god this car made me feel 21 again. Its one of them moments that really changes your outlook. I’d always liked the Clio RS but never really given it much attention. Id always thought they were cool but never even considered buying one due to it being french, not Japanese. But due to the Covid Madness& price gouging in the JDM Car space, I ended up looking into other options & boy I am glad I did.
What a fantastic little car. I so far have had a few issues which I will go into in another post soon. But I’m over the moon with my new little car & expect it to be here for a while.
Recently, I took it on its first track day. Please bare with me, just doing my stretches as I prepare to dive headfirst into that rabbit hole I mentioned….
